Order a Repeat Prescription

ORDER A PRESCRIPTION DURING COVID-19

You can request your normal repeat prescription from the practice by clicking the link HERE and clicking “Admin Query” and then filling out a prescription request which we will process within 48 working hours and pass on to your nominated pharmacy.

It is an easier option for you to order prescriptions using the online service (e.g. NHS App or Patient Access), which means you do not have to enter your details or the drugs required each time. If you have not yet signed up, please do so as soon as you can.

Online Prescriptions and Services

It is easier and quicker to manage appointments and request repeat prescriptions via our online service. Simply download the NHS App by clicking the link below and sign up for free. You will need photo ID to sign up for the NHS App.

If you are ordering your prescription online for the first time, you will need to sign up for a form of online access. The NHS App will allow you to order repeat prescriptions from your nominated pharmacy without having to come to the surgery. You can sign up by clicking the link below to download the NHS App

Your Repeat Medication

If you need regular medication and your doctor does not need to see you every time, you will be issued with ‘repeat prescription’. When you collect a prescription you will see that it is perforated down the centre. The left-hand side is the actual prescription. The right-hand side (re-order slip) shows a list of medicines that you can request without booking an appointment to see a doctor.

If you forget to request a repeat prescription

If you forget to obtain a prescription for repeat medication and thus run out of important medicines, you may be able to get help from your Pharmacy. Under the Urgent Provision of Repeat Medication Service, Pharmacists may be able to supply you with a further cycle of a previously repeated medicine, without having to get a prescription from your GP.

If you have run out of important medication, telephone your usual Pharmacy to check that they offer this service; if they don’t, they may either direct you to another Pharmacy who does provide it, or ask you to phone 111 where you can request details of a local Pharmacy that provides the service.

You must then take with you to the relevant Pharmacy, proof of both your identification and of your medication (for example, your repeat prescription list or the empty box which should have your details printed on it). Please note that controlled drugs and antibiotics are not provided through this service, you will need to ring 111 for these.

If you receive stoma products from your Pharmacy or other supplier and/or receive items such as continence products, please ensure you have sufficient supplies as you may encounter difficulties in obtaining these over Bank Holidays, or when the Surgery is closed.

What to do if you are Unable to Access the NHS App

If you are unable to access the NHS App or Patient access you can request your repeat medication via the form which can be accessed in the link below. Please note, if your records suggest you have access or are able to access the NHS App, you may be redirected to the NHS App.

If you are already signed up for Patient Access you can still use this service by logging in below.

How to order your medication

In person

Paper prescriptions are not being accepted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please DO NOT come to surgery to bring requests or collect prescriptions. Please use our online services.

By post

Paper prescriptions are not being accepted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please DO NOT post prescription requests to the surgery. Please use our online services.

Pharmacy Collection and Delivery

You can nominate a pharmacy of your choice to order your prescription request and process it on your behalf. During COVID-19 the pharmacy will make arrangements with you for collection, or they may be able to deliver it, e.g. in the case of housebound and/or vulnerable patients.

Arrangements for collection and delivery by any pharmacy must be made with that pharmacy, not the Practice.

Please do not contact the practice to check on the readiness of your prescription. Ask your pharmacy for their arrangements on how they will inform you.

Requests that we are unable to accept

In order to ensure patient security and accuracy of the items needed requests will not be accepted via:

  •  e-mail – please use the website options
  • fax

Medication reviews

The Doctors at the Practice regularly review the medication you are taking. This may involve changes to your tablets and is in accordance with current Health Authority policies. Please be reassured that this will not affect your treatment. We may sometimes call you in for a medication review and this may involve blood tests. It is very important that you attend these appointments, as it keeps you safe whilst taking medication.

Non-repeat items (acute requests)

Non-repeat prescriptions, known as ‘acute’ prescriptions are medicines that have been issued by a clinician but not added to your repeat prescription records. This is normally a new medication issued for a trial period, and may require a review visit with a clinician prior to the medication being added onto your repeat prescription records.

Some medications are recorded as acute as they require to be closely monitored by the Doctor. Examples include many anti-depressants, drugs of potential abuse or where the prescribing is subject to legal or clinical restrictions or special criteria. If this is the case with your medicine, you may not always be issued with a repeat prescription until you have consulted with your Doctor again.

Hospital requests

When you are discharged from Hospital you should normally receive five days supply of medication.

If you receive a handwritten prescription request at the hospital, this can be dropped off at the Bradeley site.

Hospital requests for change of medication will be checked by the GP first, and if necessary your Doctor will provide you with a prescription. The Practice will endeavour to have this available as soon as possible, however your prescription cannot be issued until your medical details are checked by the Doctor. Therefore, as stated on the hospital letter, it will take up to 48 hours to be dealt with.
